Listen with the ear of the heart - St Benedict

From the School Board

How do you think things are going?

We would love to hear your thoughts on how the uniform is being worn at present as well as how you feel conflict is managed within the school whether it is child – child or issues raised with the school.

As part of our renewal we need feedback on both the positive experiences and areas that may need to be considered.

Please put your ideas in writing and leave them at the office marked for the attention of the School Board by July 14.

From Father Dave.....         ‘Leadership and Service!’

A most satisfying aspect of parish life is the cooperative relationship between the Parish and the School. This is a great strength here as we look forward to celebrating St James’ Day on Sunday 26 July, beginning with the Family Mass at 9.00am - an important day for us to be together.

As members of the Body of Christ, we need to celebrate and grow in our faith. As I see it, our real challenge is to pass on our Catholic culture to our children, that sense of Catholic ‘identity’ or ‘belonging’. This won’t mean much if we don’t feel at home in the Church. Faith formation and Catholic practice are both important.

Among the experiences of faith formation at St James is the participation of the Years 5-7 children in the quarterly Anointing Mass for parishioners. Children attend Mass with those who gather to receive the Sacrament of the Sick and then assist with hospitality at morning tea afterwards. Their thoughtfulness and their friendly manner are very impressive and parishioners are generous in their praise. We can all be proud of them.

In the many schools I have been associated with over the years, the smaller schools stand out in the opportunities for leadership and service they provide for children – St James is no exception! Well done!

Outdoor Education Program Meeting
Last week we held a meeting to review what the school is doing and to look at possible ways forward.  Thank you to those who attended.  Early next term a survey will be sent home to gain the community’s thoughts on the future direction of our outdoor education program.

Exhibition Holidays
The school will be closed on Wednesday August 12 for the public holiday for the Brisbane Show.  Please note that the school will be open on Thursday August 13 and that we will be taking the Ministerial Show Holiday on Friday August 14.

Our Outside School Hours Care will be open on Friday August 14 as there will be no other centres open in our area on that day.  Parents who are seeking OSHC services for that day are requested to contact Lesleigh.
