School Uniform Policy
Effective Date: February 2006
Review date: July 2008
Uniform Order Form
Policy Area: |
Management |
Policy Principle: |
Quality in teaching, learning and management |
Rationale: |
Our school values pride in personal appearance and encourages the self-esteem and confidence that students obtain from appropriate personal presentation and hygiene. |
Guiding Principles: |
It is expected that children will wear their school uniform correctly and proudly. An appropriate standard of dress must be maintained at all times so if items become lost or worn-out, it is expected they will be replaced promptly. |
Desired Outcomes: |
- Personal pride and dignity
- A safe and aesthetically pleasing environment
- Equity among students
|
Target Audience: |
This procedure applies to students, but the responsibility for appropriate school uniform is shared with parents. |
Exceptions/Notes: |
Students that do not wear school uniform must bring a note… |
Steps: |
The complete school uniform is to be worn on all occasions unless other arrangements have been specifically made eg “free-dress” day.
Both girls and boys wear the same uniform.
The uniform consists of:
- St James navy school hat
- St James polo shirt
- St James navy school shorts
- St James school socks
All these items must be purchased through the School Uniform Shop.
Shoes
Black shoes must be worn. The Lynx style jogger, in all black, is very suitable for school wear and is recommended for purchase. Shoes with white or other coloured markings do not meet uniform requirements. The Cancer Council recommends that children do not wear sandals.
Swimwear
It is recommended that all children wear a sunshirt for swimming lessons.
Girls must wear a one-piece swimsuit and a swimming cap for swimming lessons.
Winter Uniform
In winter a navy tracksuit may be worn over the school uniform. This is not available from school, as any manufacturer we approached could not provide it at a price competitive with retail stores.
A school jacket may be purchased form the School Uniform Shop.
Hair & Jewellery
Hair below collar length must be tied up.
Navy hair ribbons may be worn.
The only permitted jewellery for girls are stud or plain sleeper-style earrings.
Holy or religious medallions may be worn under the school uniform.
Watches may be worn in Years 6 and 7 only. |
